Reasons to bid

This Explorer configuration with Gilt Type 2 Underline ‘Swiss’ dial is one of the earliest and rarest of the classic reference 1016 timeline. In our opinion, the medium to heavy patina on the dial and hands contributes significantly to the appeal of this watch. Gilt hands, lettering and patinated lumi create a purist look – what an artist would call grisaille. Connoisseurs will be delighted by the white underline under the inscription ‘Officially Certified’, which was originally intended to emphasize the fact that the dial markings were made using the then new Tritium-Lumi technology – another sign of a rare Explorer configuration.
