Reasons to bid

The Ref. 47100, which was launched in 1991 together with the very similar 47102, is a top-class skeleton chronograph. The main difference between these two models is that the 47100 has round chronograph pushers rather than the rectangular ones of the 47102. The Ref. 47100 watches are very rare. As TheHourLounge reports, there were only four versions (platinum with bracelet, platinum with strap, yellow gold with bracelet and yellow gold with strap) with a total production run of no more than 100 pieces. The caliber 1140SQ (Nouvelle Lémania 2310 ébauche) of this watch is quite remarkable as it features an unusual type of skeletonization. Usually floral engravings are paired with openworked bridges of a similar shape, while on the 1140SQ of the Ref. 47100 we find unusual angular openings reminiscent of chunks of ice – hence the nickname ‘Iceberg’. Given the rarity of the 47100 ‘Iceberg’ chronograph, the appearance of such a watch, which has excellent prospects for collectors, at auction is a major event.
