Reasons to Bid

This Cartier Tank à Vis Collection Privée Cartier Paris Ref. 2553 (W1534451) in 18k yellow gold is one of the most unusual and rarest Tank à Vis watches Cartier has produced. It is believed that this design was inspired by the Cartier Tank Étanche, the first waterproof Tank model developed in 1931. The technical style of the Tank à Vis is characterized by the unusual H-shaped bezel, which is attached to the case with four screws. The Tank à Vis 2553 is equipped with the hand-wound caliber 9902MC, which is based on an ultra-thin movement from Piaget. It features the Wandering Hour complication with an hour display in an arched window at the top of the dial, a central minute hand and an unusual two-digit date display at the bottom. The magnificent dial of this watch certainly adds to its appeal – it is very sophisticatedly designed with a gentle silvering and crisp, clean guilloché with a “lotus” motif and a contrasting blued “sword” minute hand.
