Reasons to Bid

This Quantième Perpétuel Automatique Ref. 5557CA in 18k white and yellow gold is an early example of the ultra-thin self-winding perpetual calendar that Audemars Piguet produced based on the Jaeger-leCoultre 920 ebauche from 1978. This series was so popular that it prompted the brand to develop the Royal Oak perpetual calendar, which is based on the same caliber and has been in production since 1983, the year this watch was made. The octagonal shape of the case with the round ‘double pomme” bezel, the architecture of the dial and the soldered bracelet with fluted links are strongly reminiscent of the style of Gérald Genta, who collaborated with the brand and may have been the originator of this design. Even without this option, the watch remains extremely attractive to collectors, as Audemars Piguet produced many versions of the Quantième Perpétuel Automatique. These watches are characterized by their understated elegance with a harmonious decorative touch, and the early version of the caliber without the leap year indicator on the dial is also undoubtedly of interest.
