Lot Essay

An original sketch of Konstantin Chaykin's Genius Temporis Blue Arrow watch. One of a kind. Made in 2022. Cardboard, pencil, watercolors.

The sketch depicts the steel-cased Genius Temporis Blue Arrow watch, the first version of Konstantin Chaykin's famous "one-hand" model. The watch features a unique complication, switchable hour and minute indication with the same hand. This invention was patented by Chaykin. The Genius Temporis Blue Arrow model was first introduced at the BaselWorld-2014 exhibition.

Unlike the serial-produced Genius Temporis, this model is distinguished by a restrained, laconic 1930s-style design. The dial is marked with Arabic numerals in deep, rich blue color, and a single clock hand in blued steel, shaped like a crossbow bolt. The sketch perfectly represents the finish of individual parts and the balanced yet striking blue-and-grey design of the model.

Classic Chaykin

Konstantin Chaykin has been creating complicated mechanical watches since 2003. For each watch he has ever produced, he has created several sketches. In addition, the master returns to the timeless classics in search of inspiration for new ideas.

This collection contains sketches of Konstantin Chaykin classic models that made him a world-famous master of haute horlogerie.

About the Author

Konstantin Chaykin is a famous watchmaker and inventor who has the greatest number of inventions and watch complications among his colleagues all around the world.

Moreover, Chaykin is also a great graphic artist. All of his timepieces and inventions began with sketches and drawings that he made in countless "moleskins". One may consider them a "chronicle" of his Manufacture. It is not surprising that it was Chaykin who created the world's first self-portrait watch, the Selfie Joker, the dial design of which reflects the features and traits of its creator.
