Reasons to Bid

The Breguet Tourbillon Ref. 5357 reflects on the maison’s historical connection to the tourbillon, the invention patented by Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1801 that fundamentally reshaped precision watchmaking. Introduced in the early 2000s, the 5357 presents the complication in a pure and classically grounded form, emphasizing balance, proportion, and traditional craft. The 39mm case in 18k yellow gold features the signature fluted caseband and finely soldered lugs, hallmarks that underscore Breguet’s continued adherence to historical methods while making the case more contemporary in size. The solid gold dial features a true rose engine guilloché pattern and is arranged with clarity: Roman numerals on an off-center hours and minutes dial and heat-blued Breguet hands. At 6 o’clock, the tourbillon is prominently displayed and framed by a hand-engraved cartouche, giving the mechanism both visual and architectural presence. Powering the watch is the Caliber 558, a manually wound tourbillon movement directly descended from the landmark tourbillon designs refined under Daniel Roth’s direction during his years at Breguet. Meticulously hand-finished, it features a one-minute tourbillon with running seconds indicated on the cage, reinforcing the movement’s mechanical transparency and functional purpose. The result is a watch that connects past and present, rooted in one of horology’s most important innovations while executed with the considered refinement that defines modern Breguet.
