Reasons to Bid

Henri Grandjean, one of Le Locle’s most accomplished watchmakers and a figure honored with a street bearing his name, played a central role in shaping 19th-century Swiss horology. As the founder of the Ecole d’Horlogerie du Locle, he contributed directly to the development of generations of watchmakers, and his work in chiming mechanisms remains especially respected. This quarter repeater reflects that legacy: it delivers a clear, beautiful chime and represents the technical style for which Grandjean was known. On top of the chime, the watch was treated to a dead-beat seconds complication that is rarely seen today. Preserved in excellent condition by its previous owner, it stands not only as a finely made complication but also as a piece of watchmaking history from one of the era’s defining craftsmen.
