Lot Essay

The Swiss company Louis Erard often collaborates with other brands or independent watchmakers. In 2023, the result of such a collaboration was the release of two one-eyed Wristmons, the Time-Eater Louis Erard x Konstantin Chaykin model in two design variants, with cases of 42mm. and 39mm. The foundation of the watch is the traditional Louis Erard automatic regulator. Chaykin was inspired by the ancient myths of the Cyclops and of Chronos, the god of time, consuming his children (and the famous Franciso Goya painting on the subject), as well as Russian traditional fairy tales about the monster known as the One-eyed Likho. To keep the wristmon recognizable, Chaykin used elements of the Joker design in the Time-Eater. The only "eye", the hour indicator, is located at the 12 o'clock position. Seconds are indicated by the "mouth" at the 6 o'clock position, its teeth constantly rotating, as if it was literally eating time. Minutes are indicated by the one arm-shaped clock hand. The colors used, green and purple, are also similar to the Joker.

The lot includes a sketch of the watch made by Konstantin Chaykin. The master has sketched out the green design variant. Expert use of watercolors allowed Chaykin to convincingly depict the characteristic shine of the signature guilloche on the dial.

Reasons to bid

The set of paired wristmons Time-Eater Louis Erard x Konstantin Chaykin in two sizes was released in a limited series of 28 pieces. Finding this model at an auction can be challenging. The lot is particularly valuable due to the addition of the original Konstantin Chaykin sketch.
